Spotlight: The Montana Racial Equity Project

While I was researching organizations in Montana that promote equality, inclusion, and justice, I came across The Montana Racial Equity Project (MTREP) and was blown away by their approach.

MTREP advocates for equity and justice for historically marginalized, disenfranchised, and oppressed peoples in Montana.⠀Their goal is to end the expression of racism, bigotry, and prejudice in Montana and elevate the voices of BBIPOC (Black, Brown, Indigenous, and People of Color).⠀

A sampling of their racial equity and justice projects in Montana include classroom dialogues (elementary to graduate school); community forums, events, and organizing; educational presentations and speaking engagements, training on implicit and explicit bias, and consulting with law enforcement organizations.

As they continue to be dedicated to educating Montana residents on social and racial equity, addressing the rise in actions from hate groups and White supremacists in Montana has also become a major priority.⠀

This organization is very small (less than a handful of staff) and run by women of color. I was able to meet one of the key executives in person (I’ll leave her name out, as she is a target to threats), and was moved by her eloquence, dedication, drive and energy.

Sign up to join their mailing list, to learn and be inspired by their work. And, if you have the means, donations are needed not only to grow their operations and impact, but also to enhance the security measures of their team⠀
